2025 Year in Review
(Birmingham) The Birmingham Metro Little League graciously reflects on a year of growth, community engagement, and youth development. In partnership with local organizations, schools, and faith-based partners, the League continued its mission of building strong character, teamwork, and a love for the game of baseball among Birmingham’s youth.
January – Barnstorming Clinics: Bringing Baseball to the Community
The year began with an exciting outreach initiative as Barnstorming Clinics were conducted across five Birmingham Housing Authority communities. These clinics introduced hundreds of youth to the fundamentals of baseball through a modified Pitch, Hit, and Run competition. Beyond learning the game, participants were guided in lessons on sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-confidence — foundational skills both on and off the field.
February – Spring Training and New Partnerships
In February, Spring Training commenced for the 6U, 8U, and 10U divisions, marking the official start of the baseball season. The Birmingham Metro Little League joined forces with the Birmingham Police Athletic Team (PAT) Program, creating a partnership that emphasized both athletic and character development. This collaboration expanded opportunities for young athletes to compete in a summer league that included eight local parks across Birmingham and Jefferson County.
A partnership was developed with True Vine Church to provide meals and game transportation to our athletes. Also, the Birmingham AME Ministers' Alliance voted to adopt our league and provide support for our teams.
March–May – League Competition and Player Development
From March through May, Birmingham Metro Little League teams proudly competed in the Birmingham PAT League. Players showcased tremendous improvement, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the season. Coaches and volunteers played an instrumental role in fostering an environment of encouragement and growth, helping young players develop their skills while learning the value of perseverance and teamwork.
June – MLB Old Timers Game at Rickwood Field
June was a month to remember. Players from Birmingham Metro Little League were honored with an invitation to attend the MLB Old Timers Game at historic Rickwood Field — America’s oldest professional baseball park. This once-in-a-lifetime experience allowed players to meet baseball legends, celebrate Birmingham’s deep baseball heritage, and gain inspiration for their own athletic journeys.
September – Expanding Horizons with Hope Sports Academy
In September, the League announced a new partnership with Hope Sports Academy to expand programming and provide year-round activities for youth. This collaboration aims to offer continuous opportunities for personal and athletic growth through academic support, mentoring, and sports-based learning experiences.
October – Fall Baseball and Strategic Planning for Growth
The fall season ushered in renewed enthusiasm as Fall Baseball began, allowing players to stay active and sharpen their skills. October also featured key planning meetings for the upcoming Birmingham City Schools (BCS) Little League expansion and the development of new Faith-Based Divisions. These initiatives will ensure that the league continues to grow inclusively, offering every child in Birmingham the opportunity to participate and excel.
Looking Ahead
As 2025 comes to a close, the Birmingham Metro Little League stands proud of its accomplishments and partnerships that have strengthened the community. Through baseball, youth across Birmingham are learning lessons of discipline, faith, teamwork, and confidence — lessons that extend far beyond the diamond. The League looks forward to another impactful year ahead, continuing to build champions in character, in spirit, and in sport.

A Great Summer!
(Birmingham) The Birmingham Metro Little League (BMLL) enjoyed a phenomenal summer thanks to support from Major League Baseball. The Rickwood Classic featured the first ever regular season MLB game at the historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The St. Louis Cardinals and the San Franscico Giants gave fans memories of a lifetime.
As an affiliate of the Major League Baseball’s Reviving
Baseball in Inner Cities Program (RBI), over (60) Scholar athletes from our
program participated in Major League Baseball's Play Ball Event held at Regions
Park in downtown Birmingham. This marked the first time that an MLB
Playball event has been held in the Magic City on such a large scale.
After the Playball event, the 12U BMLL Team from Inglenook
was transported by private coach to Rickwood Field for the Rickwood Minor
League Classic between the Birmingham Barons and Montgomery Biscuits.
A documentary for MLB.com was filmed during the week of
events which includes footage of our experience. The players were treated to a behind the
scenes look at MLB.com staff and personalities, and met local Negro League
players from the Birmingham Black Barons and other teams being honored during
the week of events.
In addition to attending the Minor League Game, BMLL players
and Coaches also attended the MLB Rickwood Major League Classic between the St.
Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants. Ironically and sadly,
Willie Mays the former Giant Hall of Famer, who played for the Birmingham
Barons as a teen, passed away during the game.
Mays was born in Westfield, AL a town just outside of Birmingham and grew up in Fairfield another Birmingham suburb bordering the city.
All in all, it was a historic and rewarding week for our
Baseball Community as our players learned from former MLB Coaches and Players
through a wide variety of experiences.
2nd Place
(Birmingham) The 12U Inglenook Comets
earned 2nd Place in the Piper Davis League Championships. Congratulations
to all of the 12U teams which competed for the League Title.
Congratulations to Parkwest 12U for earning first place.
